When I ask managers “what are your key responsibilities?” I often get told – “to make a profit’. A somewhat simplistic answer, because often they fail to recognise that profits primarily come from the actions of people. So it is important to recognise that the key reasons people fail to do their job and fail to make the profits is:
- they don’t know exactly what they are supposed to do
- they don’t know how to do their job because they haven’t been trained effectively
- “someone or something” interferes with their desire or motivation to do the job.
Management is often the “someone or something” when we fail to do 1 and 2 correctly. The answer is provided in the attached video.
